Phase 1: Immediate first aid

Use what you have right now. Nothing to buy.

  1. Blot & isolate

Blot hard with a thick wad of paper towels — stand on it if it's carpet — until barely anything transfers. Don't rub. On silk: press gently, never rub, and don't wring.

  2. Pantry pre-treatment

    You need

1 tsp Wool wash (e.g. Woolite) or gentle shampoo+1 cup cold water

🇺🇸 🇬🇧Wool wash (e.g. Woolite) or gentle shampoo
🇦🇺Wool wash (e.g. Softly, Woolmix) or gentle shampoo

    Method

Mix gently. Dab on with a white cloth, then press dry with a fresh one. Repeat little and often — on delicate fibers, patience beats pressure.

  3. Final flush & wash

Rinse by gently swishing in cold water. Roll in a towel to remove water — never wring — and dry flat out of direct sun. If a mark remains, take it to a dry cleaner and tell them exactly what it is.

Phase 2: Deep restoration

If a faint shadow remains after the initial rinse, or for fabrics that cannot tolerate water agitation:

Residual ghost-ring or dry-clean-only fiber?

Normal washing often won't shift the last trace of a set-in stain. Treat it with a targeted spotter before it goes anywhere near dryer heat — heat locks in whatever is left.
