Bloodon linen
Do NOT use warm or hot water β it cooks the protein into the fiber permanently.
Phase 1: Immediate first aid
Use what you have right now. Nothing to buy.
Blot & isolate
Blot up as much as you can with a cold, damp cloth. Flush from the back with cold running water so it's pushed out the way it came in.
Pantry pre-treatment
You need
1 tbsp 3% hydrogen peroxide
3% hydrogen peroxide: The brown pharmacy bottle. Stronger hair-bleach peroxide will damage fabric.
Method
Dab on undiluted β it will fizz as it breaks the blood down. Blot and repeat until the fizzing stops. White or colorfast fabrics only.
Final flush & wash
Rinse from the back with cold water, then wash on a gentle cycle. Dry flat or line-dry and check before ironing.
Why this one's tricky
Linen sheets and tablecloths are strong and can be soaked, which makes blood very treatable. Cold salt water first, rinse, then a dab of peroxide for anything left on white linen. Coloured linen can lose dye, so skip the peroxide there and rely on cold water and patience. Line-dry and check before ironing, because an iron over a faint blood mark will fix it for good.
Phase 2: Deep restoration
If a faint shadow remains after the initial rinse, or for fabrics that cannot tolerate water agitation:
Residual ghost-ring or dry-clean-only fiber?
Normal washing often won't shift the last trace of a set-in stain. Treat it with a targeted spotter before it goes anywhere near dryer heat β heat locks in whatever is left.

Apply a few drops with a cotton bud, tamp gently, then flush as the label directs. Patch-test first.
